Theft within the agricultural sector tends to conger images of thieves targeting farm machinery and livestock, yet there is a far more common threat emerging. According to the BBC, ‘Fuel theft is the third most common of UK rural crime and according to the BBC, ‘theft cost the UK farming industry £49.7m, an increase of 26% on the previous year, with no evidence to suggest that this figure is decreasing.
Answer: Never, but farmers may have to change their activities to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
WP Agricultural has supplied the Butler family at Whitewool farm in East Meon for many years. Des Close, our Business Development Manager who looks after their account, has witnessed the innovative measures developed by the family in introducing alternative profit lines.
Farmwatch is an initiative led by members of the Agricultural sector in the Test Valley area. Its members and representatives of the local constabulary meet three times a year to discuss the topics of Security and Welfare in the region.
It would appear that the problem of unwanted visitors continues to be a threat to many farms. The theft of fuel and farm equipment occurring both at night and in the daytime seems to be on the rise.
August and early September have seen WP Agricultural busy delivering to farmers as they harvest and with so much rain over the last 6 weeks farmers have had to run driers more than usual to remove the moisture in their crops.
